Jessie Pauline Burgess, age 82, of Flora, IL passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon, IL. Jessie was born December 22, 1930 in Clay County, IL to John and Ethel (Scammahorn) Mefford. She married Ralph Burgess on July 8, 1979 in Clay City and was of the Christian faith. Jessie enjoyed playing Bingo and other cards and games. She is survived by her husband: Ralph Burgess of Flora; children: Paula Bowen, David Wood, and Lucia Hinton; step-children: Crystal Reynolds (husband Scott) and Shirley Mefford (boyfriend Bobby Molina); 4 brothers: John Harrington of Flora, Perry Harrington of Flora, Jim Mefford, Leland Harrington of Mattoon; 6 sisters: Marlene Ball of Tuscola, Eileen Daugherty, Betty Hartsey of Louisville, Lois Workman of Flora, Daisy Krutsinger of Flora, Betsy Eckelberry of Flora; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters. The funeral for Jessie Burgess will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will be in Old Union Cemetery, Bible Grove. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family to help with expenses.
