Shirley A. Mason, age 77, of Flora, IL passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Flora Rehab and Health Care Center in Flora.

She was born January 3, 1936 in Wayne County, IL to Raymond and Helen (Hunt) Henson. She married Charles Burkett in the year 1955 in Flora, IL. He preceded her in death in the year 1985. She later married Bob Mason on December 8, 1985 in Flora, IL. Shirley was a member of Flora Community of Christ Church where she served as a church elder and was involved in the church choir. Her enjoyment of singing led to her participation in the Adelines choir group. She had worked in the bookkeeping department at First National Bank and had been involved with the Clay County Hospital Auxiliary. Shirley’s family was very important to her. She enjoyed looking after her grandchildren and loved for them to spend the night at her house.

She is survived by her husband: Bob Mason of Flora; a son: Terry Burkett (wife Angela) of Flora; a brother: Galen Henson (wife Jane) of Fairview Heights, IL; 4 grandchildren: Joshua Burkett (wife Lindy) of Muscle Shoals, AL, Deanna de Sà (husband Tomaz) of Flora, Jacob Burkett (wife Laura) of Salem, IL, Jonah Burkett (wife Tricia) of Flora; a granddaughter-in-law: Sara Burkett of Flora; along with 16 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, and a grandson (Charles “Chuck” Burkett).

The funeral service for Shirley Mason will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with Dr. Donald Bunnell officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. The family has requested that memorial donations be made to Flora Community of Christ or to Clay County Hospice and may be received at the funeral home.
