Mayor Bob Tackitt of Flora, Illinois, passed away Monday January 22nd, 2018, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, surrounded by those he loved, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Harvey Robert Tackitt Jr was born March 18th, 1949 in Flora, the son of Harvey Robert Tackitt Sr and Margaret (Henson) Tackitt.  He was united in marriage to Barbara Fout on January 10th, 1976, at Blue Point Free Will Baptist Church in Cisne.

Bob was a graduate of Flora High School and served his country in the Army in Vietnam from 1969-1970, serving as Special Police with a Transportation Unit. He worked for many years at Eaton Auto Parts in Flora and retired from the Secretary of State’s Office after twenty-five years of service.  Bob was a third term mayor of Flora, having been elected in 2006.  He loved working in the capacity of mayor and being a part of helping the town and citizens grow and prosper.

Bob loved to tinker in his shed and listen to the Cardinals.  He was an avid gardener and took a great deal of pride in canning homemade salsa.  He was a devoted husband, father, friend, and neighbor.  He was well loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Barb, and their children, daughter Elizabeth of Flora and son Robby of Olney; sister Patti O’Ryan of Salem; brother Jim (Aleta) Tackitt of Flora; mother in law Betty Eckelberry of Flora; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Margaret; brother Jack Pickel and wife Phyllis of Flora; sister Hattie Ruger and husband Jim of Flora; nephew Mark Ruger of Flora; nephew Roger Strange of Flora; and niece Yvette “Punkin” O’Ryan.

Visitation for Mayor Bob will be held Thursday, January 25th, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, IL.  The funeral will take place Friday, January 26th, 2017, at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to either Clay County Hospice or Fur a Good Paws and will be accepted through the funeral home.

The Tackitt Family wishes to thank the staff of Barnes Jewish Hospital for their tireless care and support through this difficult time.

January 24th

The last time I saw and talked with Bob was at our high school reunion this past summer. He was, as always, "Bob" - full of life, stories, and a never ending smile. I recall asking him, "So when are you going to retire? Every time I pick up the local paper your picture is plastered all over it!" He grinned and said, "Soon I hope." That little conversation told me how much he loved what he did, and he was surrounded by people who appreciated him. I think if it was up to him he would have worked another 50 years. We went through grade school together, and we tried to keep in touch over the years in spite of life taking us to varied careers. But every time we would meet, his quick wit and smiles would make me feel comfortable exactly like we were - old friends. I, like all that new Bob, will miss him . . . one just expects good people to be around forever. To Barb and your family, my deepest condolences. Bob was a good friend and I will treasure his memory forever.

You always smiled and went out of your way to make someone feel at home. The whole world will miss you.
