A private family ceremony was held.
John H Tolliver, age 79, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
John was born March 13, 1938, in Clay County, the son of Bruce and Ellen (Phillips) Tolliver. He married Dorothy Holeman on April 21, 1977, in Clay City, and they have shared 40 years together.
John served 3 years in the U.S. Navy, stationed on the USS Ticonderoga. He lived in California at one time, and throughout life worked as a carpenter and contractor. He also raised hogs and worked for FS and the Village of Louisville. He was of the Baptist faith, a Master Mason, and a member of the Odd Fellows. John enjoyed fishing and as an avid Cubs fan, took pride in seeing them win the World Series.
He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Tolliver of Flora; 3 children: Mistie Urdaneta (Dr. Alfonso) of Salem, Scott Tolliver (Marla) of Salem, and Tom Griffy (Lina) of Louisville; 10 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a brother: Gene Tolliver of Flora. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Beverly Griffy; and grandson: Shane Lewis.
