Earl Kent Pierson, age 83, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018, at his home in Flora.
He was born August 21, 1934, in Clay County, the son of Dale and Virginia (Cunningham) Pierson. Earl married Clara Mae Felty on August 6, 1954, in Flora, and together they celebrated 60 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on May 21, 2015.
Earl worked for the City of Flora for many years, retiring as a lineman. He was an avid fisherman and often shared his stories and looked forward to another outing. He and Clara enjoyed travel, camping, and square dancing together. Earl was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and trustee, and was a member of Flora Masonic Lodge #204.
He is survived by a daughter: Rebecca (Rick) Williams of Decatur; a son: Michael Kent Pierson of Atlanta, GA; 4 grandchildren: Elizabeth Pearce of O’Fallon, Jarred (Patricia) Pearce of Mt. Vernon, IN, Hayley Pearce of Charleston, and Lacy (Harold) Pippin of Evansville, IN; 9 great-grandchildren: Jonas Murphy, Carson Hayes, Audrey Hayes, Anna Pearce, Julian Scales, Laurel Hayes, Zoey Pearce, Dawson Hayes, and Cora Pippin; 1 brother: Allen (Darlene) Pierson of Flora; along with several nieces and nephews; and he will for certain be missed by his cat, Jake. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Clara; and an infant child.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Flora, with Jim Earleywine officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday at the church. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations may be given to Clay County Cancer Crusaders and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Such a nice friend. 💌 Such a happy, jovial man, I wish you could have found happiness after Clara left for Heaven!💌 A true fisherman at heart. You were always so happy, Earl. Everyone should laugh in life, just as you laughed when you told Don about your fish!! I hope your joy is bubbling and running over once again as you enter Heavens gates. We will miss you at church when we return for visits. We will always remember your laughter and joy when we talk about your fishing adventures. I hope you are laughing now as you make discoveries in your new heavenly home - with Clara laughing along side of you!!❤️❤️. I am so sorry for your loss. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time. Uncle Earl can now be with Aunt Clara once again...along with all of the crazy sisters that go with her. I will always remember his love of story telling (mostly fish stories from long ago). May he rest in peace.
