A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at Cisne Cemetery
Laura Elizabeth “Betty” Eckelberry, age 95, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Sunday afternoon April 7, 2019, at Flora Gardens Care Center.
She was born July 22, 1923, in Wayne County, the daughter of Marion and Mary (Orr) Mitchell.
Betty was well-known for owning and operating BJ Travel and BJ Fashions. She was a member of First Christian Church in Flora and the Clay County Hospital Auxiliary. She had been part of the singing “Sweet Adelines,” was an avid card player, and enjoyed following St. Louis Cardinals Baseball.
She is survived by her 4 children: Dan Fout of Henderson, Kentucky, Barb Tackitt of Flora, Doug Fout of Flora, and Charles Mainer of Flora; 7 grandchildren: Bill Fout, Cheryl (Mike) Church, Elizabeth Tackitt, Robby Tackitt, Seth Fout, Derek Mainer, and Lindsey Mainer; several great-grandchildren; and a brother: Bob (Hazel) Mitchell of Fairfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Charles (Shirley) Mitchell; son-in-law: Bob Tackitt; and daughter-in-law: Connie Fout.
A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at Cisne Cemetery, with Loren Holloway officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations are suggested to Flora Gardens Activity Fund or a Charity of the Donor’s Choice and will be accepted through the funeral home.
Barb and family I am so very sorry to hear this. I never got to come and see her after we spoke on the phone because I had a few surgeries to go thru. Betty was such a great person and a true friend. I will miss her and always cherish the memories from all our bus trips. God bless you all.

I loved visiting with Betty. She had such a contagious smile that could be seen from across the room. Her face always beamed when I spoke of her family. You could always tell she was so proud of each family member. Betty will be missed by all who knew her. She is in heaven now surrounded by many family and friends and in the comfort of God. May God bring comfort to you and your family. May you always cherish your time with Betty and cherish the wonderful memories that you will always have of her.

My sincere condolences, I will always cherish Betty caring so much for all the Clay City children, many fond memories, Betty would load a station wagon full of kids and to the Flora skating rink we would go. Stayed many nights at her home, Charlie was a close friend growing up as kids..
Betty, BJ, was an amazing woman. May you treasure many years of memories.
My dear friend I fill as I've know you my whole life. You were so good to us as little kids at the skating rink. You've just been a lifelong friend. Rest in peace you have touched allot of hearts hear on earth.
One of the sweetest person I have know during my life. Loved her dearly. I had no idea working at the nursing home she was there. We used to have long chats when we seen each other. Very special person to me. Bless you all.
She is being remembered by her beautiful personality and enjoyment of working with people
We loved Miss Betty. She was our next door neighbor for years before we moved out of town. She was always so good to my boys, bringing them sweets and toys. I know she loved her kids and grandchildren, and we were lucky enough to have known her.
