Memorial Visitation: 1 until 2 p.m., Sunday, September 15, 2019, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home
Roy Dean Young, age 79, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Friday night, September 6, 2019, at Clay County Hospital.
He was born July 26, 1940, in Flora, the son of the late Dale Young and Anna (Bradley) Lamb. He married Karen J. Colclasure on September 29, 1962, at the First Church of God in Flora, and they have celebrated 56 wedding anniversaries together.
Roy had a career working for Sunbeam, Hella, and then North American Lighting, retiring in 2006 after serving as plant superintendent. He is remembered as a soft-spoken and fair leader to those he worked with. He honorably served in the U. S. Navy. Roy logged countless miles as a long-distance runner, had also enjoyed playing tennis and golf, and was an enthusiastic lifelong Cubs baseball fan. Keeping his yard looking mowed and well-trimmed was very rewarding to him. Apart from all other things, the cherished light in Roy’s life was his great-granddaughter, River Rose, and his granddaughter, Ciera.
He is survived by his wife: Karen Young of Flora; a daughter: Kamela Young (Andrew Shultz) of Cisne; a son: Rodney Young of Salem; a granddaughter: Ciera Young Birch (husband Cody) of Flora; a great-granddaughter: River Rose; a brother: Ron Young of Xenia; and 2 sisters: Roberta Schnepper and Barbara Lamb of Rinard.
A memorial ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 2019, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, followed by the presentation of military funeral honors. A memorial visitation will be from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the ceremony. Private interment will be in Kneff Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Clay County Animal Rescue and Shelter (CCARS) and will be accepted through the funeral home. To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com

I met Roy when I worked at NAL. He was a kind person and respected by many. He will be greatly missed. My condolences...
Roy Young was a person in which "still waters run deep" described well. An intelligent man that spoke softly and delibrately and carried himself with a quiet dignity. A person that when he spoke you should listen as you could learn a lot from his words and from the disciplined way he carried himself. He was a kind man who felt everyone deserved a second chance and he truly led a life that showed that belief through the gentle kindness and respect he showed towards everyone. He will be missed by all those who knew him.
So sorry .... Thoughts and Prayers ...
