A private graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery
David Hank Meares, age 63, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Tuesday evening, May 19, 2020, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
He was born December 10, 1956, in Clay County, Illinois, the son of Leonard E. and Ella L. (Loveland) Meares.
Hank was a member of the Flora High School class of 1975. He worked as a truck driver for many years and was known as “Hammer’n Hank.” He enjoyed going to church services and had attended Orchardville Church in the past until his health no longer allowed. He looked forward to going camping in DuQuoin each year and enjoyed cooking and eating at Grandma’s Kitchen and Julians.
He is survived by cousins: Bob (Elaine) Meares of Flora and Mary Ann Pittman of Flora; special friends: Vickie Strange, Gary Lehman, Lisa Davis, and Lisa Kincaid; and numerous other close friends that he considered family.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Leonard and Ella Meares; and a sister: Jana Franklin.
A private graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery with George Thomason officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. A good man. Those are our thoughts on Hank Meares. He used to visit Becky (Hunt) Payne and myself, pretty much every weekend while we worked at S&L Video, in Milts Alley. No more suffering for Hank. Rest in Peace!

Hard to believe that Mr. Hank is gone. He was always the nicest guy every time you met him...He had the biggest heart and smile. Continued prayers for the family....will miss this guy for sure...

We went to school together for many years at Lincoln then onto high school. He was one special guy he would always make time to sit and talk to anyone. He will be missed but he is no longer in pain.

So many memories with Hank! I met Hank through my then sister in law, as he was friends with Rick Beall, who also drove. Such a character and provided many laughs. I last seen him eating out at Julianβs- he will be missed! Rest In Peace Hank! β€οΈ

You will be missed Hank. A lot of memories from visiting at the Pizza Pit, to camping at DuQuoin. And for the last several years you joining us for Thanksgiving.
My Heart goes out to the Family. Hank was a good man. He was always willing to help you out if needed. He liked to play the tough guy but he was a good soul. Til we meet again.
