Nona Marie Slagley, age 76, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away Thursday night, June 25, 2020, at her home.
She was born January 31, 1944, in Geff, Illinois, the daughter of Homer and Leola (Lee) Winchester. She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Slagley in May of 1962, and together they shared 14 years of marriage until his death May 17,1977.
Nona loved everyone and always had a kind word to say. She had many people that loved her like a mother and her door was always open to anyone who needed her or a little kid that needed a hug.
She is survived by a son: Alan (Lana) Slagley of Louisville; a daughter: Cathy Cooper Ferguson of Xenia; 2 bonus children: Joshua Ferguson and Steven Carlyle; a sister: JoAnn (J.D.) Patridge of Cynthiana, KY; and a sister-in-law: Marion Bonn of Xenia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Bill Slagley; a brother: Carrol Lee Sr.; companion of 23 years: Bill Cooper; and several aunts and uncles.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora assisted the family with arrangements. What a kind soul. Nona is one of the nicest people that I have ever known. Being first cousins, I have known Nona since she was a youngster. We spent a lot of time together, from babies to adulthood, (73 years), and I will treasure each moment of the time we spent. Love you forever.
Sorry to hear of Nona's passing. We went to Flora High School together and shared many classes together. Always enjoyed visiting with her when I worked at IGA and ahe came through my lane. Prayers of comfort for all the family.

Nona and I were old friends going back to Xenia Grade School. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing==but I know the past few years were not good for her. Love and prayers to her family.
