Janice K. Cook, age 68, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Friday afternoon, July 17, 2020, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
She was born October 9, 1951, in Flora, the daughter of Russell and Mickie (Cailteux) Cook.
She is survived by her parents: Russell and Mickie Cook of Rinard; a brother: Steve (Mary) Cook of Carmi; nieces: Kristen (Jeremy) Smiddie of Carmi, Kendra (Andy) Knott of Indianapolis, IN, and Karie (Danny) Farris of West Liberty; and great nieces and nephews: Jaxson and Madison Smiddie, Hattie, Sydnie, Ellie, and Josie Knott, and Adelyn and Landen Farris.
Janice attended Johnsonville grade school and graduated with the Flora Township High School Class of 1969. She then went on to get her teaching degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Janice taught Special Education at North Clay Elementary and North Clay Jr. High School from 1975 until her retirement in 2009. Known as “Miss Cookie”, she always had a smile and a kind word for her students over the years. Janice was of the Methodist faith.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2020, at Bunker Cemetery. Those attending are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora assisted the family with arrangements. Memorial donations are suggested to Bunker Cemetery or Xenia United Methodist Church and will be accepted through the funeral home.
