Shirley Ann Finley, age 87, of Flora, Illinois, and formerly of St. Elmo, passed away early Friday morning, October 9, 2020, at Flora Gardens Care Center.
She was born July 14, 1933, in St. Elmo, the daughter of Roy William “Culley” Finley and Hazel Delphine (Augustine) Finley.
Shirley had worked at Peerless in Effingham, Land of Lincoln Legal Aid Services, and as a CNA at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital and Fayette County Hospital where she reminisced memories of the care and attention she gave the babies who were in her care. She had been a member of First Baptist Church of St. Elmo, was a past member of St. Elmo Women’s Civic Club, Home Extension, and VFW Auxiliary, and was a proud 2005 St. Elmo Mayoral candidate.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Toni Waddell (Glenn Young) of Flora and Tammy (Mahon) Durbin of St. Louis, Missouri; a daughter-in-law: Carolyn Waddell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren: Jennifer Waddell, Jimmie Waddell, Gerry Homann, Kent Childress, Joshua Homann, and Kyle Durbin; 9 great-grandchildren: Makayla Osmon, Paxton Childress, Tracyn Childress, Draven Homann, Pantera Homann, Coraline Homann, Halo Homann, Blithe Homann, and Theia Homann; and a great-great-granddaughter: Zayli Osmon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son: James Roy Waddell; and a brother: William “Bill” Finley.
A graveside ceremony for Shirley Finley will begin at 3 p.m. Monday, October 12, 2020, at Maplewood Cemetery in St. Elmo where interment will follow. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations are suggested to Clay County Cancer Crusaders and will be accepted through the funeral home.
