Leona Mae Hackney, age 78, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Wednesday morning, March 10, 2021, at her home.
She was born April 14, 1942, in Songer Township, Clay County, the daughter of David Roscoe and Wynonia Waif (Evans) Dow. She was united in marriage to Larry E. Hackney on June 25, 1961, at the Presbyterian Church and together they have shared 59 wedding anniversaries.
Leona had worked for several local attorneys as a legal secretary. She was a charter member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Flora where she had been WMU Director. Leona cherished time spent with family, enjoyed quilting and sewing, and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her husband: Larry Hackney of Flora; 2 sons: Dustin (Heidi) Hackney of Brownsburg, Indiana, and Joel (Sarah) Hackney of Flora; 4 grandchildren: Aaron, Rachel, Makenna, and Carson Hackney; and a sister: Margaret Eubanks of Flora.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and 2 sisters: Norma Jean Devore and Mary Ellen Littlejohn.
A funeral ceremony will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2021, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Pastor Don Lusk Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 12 noon until time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to First Southern Baptist Church Youth and will be accepted through the funeral home.
