Larry Gaines
Jul 13th, 1951 - Apr 13th, 2021Larry Omer Gaines, age 69, of Flora, Illinois, left the earth to be with his Heavenly Father, Tuesday night, April 13, 2021, at the Burge House in Flora.
He was born July 13, 1951, in Xenia, Illinois, the son of Omer P. and Wanda (Simmons) Gaines. He married Brenda McCollum Kilduff in 1987.
Larry was a 1972 graduate of Flora High School. He was very proud to serve Unit #35 School District as custodian at McEndree School where he retired in 2013 after 40 plus years of service. Larry enjoyed listening to Flora Wolves football and basketball games on his radio. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. He loved listening to music and some of his favorites were various bluegrass and gospel groups. Larry was a true believer in Jesus Christ, attending church as often as he could and when he was unable he would listen to the services on his radio.
He is survived by his 2 sons: Larry Allan Gaines of Flora, and Kyle Brent Gaines of Louisville; stepson: James Kilduff of Olney; mother: Wanda Gentry of Flora; 4 sisters: Jeanette Coggin of Flora, Deana Anderson of Flora, Caroline Cannon of Altamont, and Goldie Shaw of Newport, TN; a half-brother: Ivan Gaines of Tennessee; and his special cat: Black & White.
He was preceded in death by his father; a sister: Mary Lou; half-brother: John Gaines; and a half-sister: Modena Green.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at Powers Cemetery with Bobby McNeely officiating. Those attending are asked to arrive directly at the cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.
