May 22nd, 1954 - Jun 20th, 2021Donald “Don” Colvin, 67, went to be with the Lord on June 20, 2021, at 5:55 a.m. at the Paris Healthcare and Rehab in Paris, IL
Don was born May 22, 1954, in Springfield, IL the son of the late Robert E.L. Colvin and Anna (Van Huss) Colvin.
Don graduated from Southeastern High School in Springfield, IL in 1972 where he learned carpentry and built homes, a skill that followed him throughout his life. After graduation Don went to Hyles Anderson College and studied several years to become a minister. While studying at Hyles Anderson College, Don worked at Munster Steel in Munster, Indiana where he learned to wield a trade that he excelled at and made a living with. He was ordained as a minister of the gospel on Feb 19, 1977 at the First Baptist Church in Divernon, IL.
On March 16, 1978 Don Colvin married Susan (Adkins) Colvin in Charleston, WV. Together they made a family and had 4 boys: David Colvin (Lydia) of Ashmore, IL, Jonathan Colvin (Hannah) of Lynnwood WA, Nathan Colvin (Lesley) of Chrisman, IL, and Timothy Colvin.
Don is survived by his sons David, Jonathan and Nathan, his grandchildren Isabel, Kayleah, Davis, Gage and Evelyn, one brother David Colvin and his sister Susan (Scott) Blood, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers: Eugene, Robert, Kenneth, Jerry, and Daniel. His wife Susan and son Timothy also preceded him in death.
Don was a kid at heart who loved to have fun and joke around. He was a kind man who would give you the shirt off of his back if you ever needed it. If you ever knew him as a friend, you knew that you had a friend who would have your back no matter what.
Don loved to go out on the lake and fish; to him it did not matter if he caught anything or not. He loved guns and loved hunting squirrels. He especially loved music. He loved drums from an early age and was finally able to learn to play them later in life.
There were two things Don loved above all else. He loved the Lord and he loved his boys. Don served God as a pastor at Riverlake Baptist Church in Waverly, TN and 7th Avenue Baptist Church in Lobelville, TN where he served for several years. It was at 7th Avenue Baptist Church that he helped to build the education wing of the church. Don loved his boys and sacrificed for them time and time again. He was always by their side encouraging them, caring for them, and taking care of them. He is quoted as saying, “My greatest success in life has been you boys, and my greatest work in ministry has been 7th Avenue Baptist Church.”
A graveside service will be held Monday June 28, 2021, at 2:30 p.m. at Brush Creek Cemetery in Divernon, IL. Pastor Rick Irwin will be officiating.
