Betty Strange, age 91, of Flora, Illinois, passed away early Sunday morning, September 26, 2021, at Cisne Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.
She was born September 30, 1929, in Clay County, daughter of the late James Monroe and Helen Henrietta (Hoard) Henderson. Betty married George W. Strange on March 13, 1949, in Flora, and he preceded her in death in 1975.
Betty worked for the shoe factory and later retired from the garment factory. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much joy over the years, and she enjoyed spending time reading and putting jigsaw puzzles together.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Karen (Thomas) Bauman of Troy, Missouri, and Kathy (Lloyd) Barrett of Warrenton, Missouri; a special friend: Nicole “Niki” Lewis; 4 grandchildren: Deanna (Ankur) Panthi, Zachariah “Zach” (Elisa) Strange, Chad Bauman (Justin Dunleavy), and Casey (Chad) Kerns; 9 great-grandchildren: Sydney Strange, Kennedy “KJ” Kerns, Alex Baumann, Caleb Strange, Grant Baumann, Quinn Kerns, Brynn Panthi, Cora Panthi, Everett Bauman-Dunleavy; 8 siblings: Neoma Stine, Edward “Dale” Henderson, Eula Berry, Patsy “Pat” Blaney, Donna Teter, Kenneth “Kenny” Henderson, Dana (Danny) McCormick, and Betty “Marie” (Ralph) Morris; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a son: George "Ed" Strange; 4 brothers: James Everett Henderson, Melvin Henderson, Francis Henderson, Robert “Bob” Henderson; and a sister: Sandra “Sandy” Lowtrip.
A graveside ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora. Those attending are asked to arrive directly at the cemetery. Arrangements are by Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations are suggested to a choice of either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children-St. Louis, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.
