Barbara A. (Perrine) Gill, age 86, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at her home.
She was born on June 19, 1935, the daughter of Dorothy Overstreet and Charles Perrine. She married Earl Gill on September 26, 1951, and they shared 70 wedding anniversaries. Together they had two daughters and raised three of their grandchildren as their own.
Barbara will always be remembered as the most selfless caregiver, keeping everyone in line and putting everyone else first. From working in the Lincoln School cafeteria, to babysitting, to raising three bonus children, she was always taking care of others and never hesitated to offer a helping hand wherever she saw a need. She faced each and every hardship head on and never let anyone see a struggle in her own life. To say she was strong is an understatement, and that rang true throughout every moment of her life. She loved meeting her friends for coffee, shopping trips, and her weekly visits to the beauty shop, luxuries she only let herself enjoy once she had raised her family. Daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, mamaw, friend, and “woman” – all of those titles encompass a life lived in service of others, for whom life will never be the same. She leaves behind a legacy of unending love.
Barbara is survived by her husband: Earl Gill of Flora; a sister: Sue Nolan of Flora; half-brother: Bill Laswell of New York; half-sisters: Bev Wood and Charlene Lister; daughters: Terri Barche of Louisville and Patricia Shock of Chicago; grandchildren: Christopher (Shanda) McCrory, Gregory (Johnna) Gill, Leslie (Grant) Keller, Spenser Gill, Jordan Shock, and Magen Troyer; great-grandchildren: Rayce McCrory, Clay Patrick, Rhett Keller, and Rylee Gill; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Dorothy (Overstreet) Gary and Charles Perrine; a sister: Connie Perrine Dunnigan; and a brother: Charles Perrine.
There will be no services. Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora assisted the family with arrangements. Memorial donations are suggested to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital and will be accepted through the funeral home. To share a memory or condolence visit: www.frankandbright.com
