Mary Kerby, 93, of Rixeyville, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. She was born October 5, 1928, in Clay County, Illinois, to the late William and Tessa Corry.
Mary was a pastor’s wife for over 30 years and a homemaker specializing in her hickory nut cookies, pecan pies and chocolate cake. She was an accomplished seamstress and crocheted many afghans, especially for baby gifts.
She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Savage of Rixeyville, VA. Additional survivors include six grandchildren, Christopher Kerby and Jeffery Kerby of Texas, Matthew Kerby and his wife Leslie of Arkansas, Corry Savage and his wife Jennifer of Culpeper, Virginia, DeVonna Weatherholtz and her husband Kenny of Rixeyville, Virginia, and Whitney Tinnin and her husband Jonathan of Grottoes, Virginia. Eight great-grandchildren, Mary-Mattison Kerby, Emmerson Kerby, Linley Kerby, Mattox Kerby, Diego Kerby, Wesley Weatherholtz, Maribeth Weatherholtz and Garrett Weatherholtz along with one great-grandchild, Oliver Tinnin, on the way. She also has numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Rev. Eldon J. Kerby, one son, James A. Kerby, one son-in-law, Randy Savage, four brothers, Clifford Earl Corry, Howard William Corry, Jesse Hammond Corry, and Arwin Dale Corry, three sisters, Kathryn Leola Aldrich, Wanda Lucille Meares, and Naomi Ruth Bertrand.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 27, 2021, from 10 until 11:30 a.m. at the Frank and Bright Funeral Home in Flora, Illinois. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:30 a.m. Rev. Kelsey Villines and Rev. Jeff Hough will be officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Friends and family are invited to a time of fellowship after interment at the “Kerby Hall” at the New Hope Pentecostal Church, 300 East Washington Street, Flora.
