Carolyn “Jean” Webster, age 84, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
She was born May 17, 1937, in Defiance, Ohio, the daughter of Carroll A. and Arlene G. (Gunter) Colgan. She was united in marriage to Warren Wayne Webster on June 4, 1960, in Defiance, Ohio, and together they shared 53 wedding anniversaries until his death November 3, 2013.
Jean was the beloved mother of Karen and Cheryl. After raising her two daughters she went to work at Rax Restaurant in Flora, working there from the day it opened until the day it closed its doors. She later worked for Addus Home Health Care until her retirement. During the last year and a half of her life Jean lived at Heritage Woods assisted living facility in Flora where she participated in many activities and felt like a member of the Heritage Woods family. She loved crafts and flowers and enjoyed many good memories at Heritage Woods. Jean’s loving and caring ways will be missed by all who knew her, especially her lifelong friend Barbie Call.
She is survived by a brother: Ronald Colgan; two daughters: Karen (Mike) Pickel of Flora and Cheryl Webster (Roger Gerdak) of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren: April (Matt) Utley of Charleston, South Carolina, Angela (Logan) Parker of Flora, Amanda Smith of Florence, Alabama, Nicholas Gerdak of Jacksonville, Florida, and Alex Gerdak of Jacksonville, Florida; step-grandchildren: Emily (Jeramia) Blackwell of Flora, Noel (Nathan) Whitehead of Flora, and Noah Pickel of Flora; great-grandchildren: Maddox Utley, Mason Lowther, Molly Utley, Clara Utley, Lucy Utley, and Caden Parker; step-great-grandchildren: Chloe and Kylie Blackwell, and Norah and Nolen Whitehead.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until time of service on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Heritage Woods Activity Fund and will be accepted through the funeral home.
