Sally Ann Senters, age 79, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away Sunday morning, May 22, 2022, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.
She was born July 26, 1942, in Xenia, the daughter of Lloyd and Thelma (Colclasure) Tolliver. She was united in marriage to David D. Senters on December 26, 1966, in Louisville, and together they shared 53 wedding anniversaries until his death on August 11, 2020.
Sally was more than just a wife and mother. She had many hidden talents and the ability to accomplish anything she set her mind to. In addition to growing up with learned talents from her mother and grandmother like cooking, sewing, and gardening, she would research any new subject in order to learn a new skill. She always wanted to contribute and earn money to buy things for her children, whether it was school clothes or Christmas presents. What she couldn’t buy she would make by hand, even her children’s clothes. She instilled many family traditions like family Sunday dinners and making homemade Christmas candy. She loved flower gardening and always grew a large vegetable garden. She was known for her blackberry jelly made only from wild berries. Sally loved spending her time with her husband, David, going for drives in the country, hunting ginseng, and digging river clams. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren reading stories and making blanket forts.
She is survived by her 2 daughters: Lisa Johns of Xenia and Lilith Davis of Flora; 6 grandchildren: Melissa Hagen, Johnny Wayne Smith, Burtis Wenzel, and Trenton, Taylor, and Hannah Johns; 8 great-grandchildren: Austin Davis, Dylan Sucher, Maleah McKinney, Madison Smith, Tristen Smith, and Clayton, Alexis, and Cody Hagen; 2 great-great-grandchildren: Christopher Ray Davis and Alivya Faye Hagen; brothers: Bill Tolliver of Flora, Jack Tolliver of Flora, and Jim Tolliver (Ginger Duff) of Clay City; sisters: Pat (Xon) Harrell of Xenia, Polly Mendoza of Salem, and Betty Jo Trotter of Flora.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter: Terri Cook; a grandson: Christopher Lee Davis; brothers: John Robert Tolliver and Tom Tolliver; and a sister: Susie Senters.
