Roy F. Stine

Roy F. Stine, age 78, of Flora, IL died at 8:48 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at his home in Flora.

Roy was born on August 9, 1934 in Effingham, IL to Orval F. and Evelyn L. (Lackey) Stine. He married Mary Beth Moore on August 13, 1961 in Louisville, IL and they have celebrated 51 years of marriage together.

Roy attended the University of Illinois graduating with a business degree. Upon graduation he served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army for 2 years. After completing his service in the Army, Roy obtained a state position as a bank examiner. In 1958, Roy became affiliated with the First National Bank of Flora where he served as Executive Vice President in charge of the Trust Department and also served on the Board of Directors until his retirement in 1994.

Roy’s involvement in the community was evident by his memberships which included the First United Methodist Church where he taught the Hemphill Bible Class, was a Charter Member of the Flora Academic Foundation, was a member of the Clay County Hospital Foundation, was Clay County’s coordinator for the Salvation Army, a member of Flora Masonic Lodge #204 AF&AM, a member of Clay County Shrine Club, a member of Flora Elks Lodge #1659 where he continued the tradition of the Tom & Jerry parties, a member of the Flora Moose Lodge, a member of the Flora American Legion Post #14, and a member of the Wabash Outing Club. Roy also had many interests that he enjoyed in his spare time. He was interested in history, enjoyed doing woodworking and pewter work such as casting pewter spoons, and having a fascination with old cars he had a Model-A-Ford restored. He and Mary Beth also enjoyed traveling. Roy was a conversationalist and a definite people person who had a genuine concern for others. He loved his family and especially enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren.

Roy is survived by his wife: Mary Beth Stine of Flora; a son: Dr. Scott Stine and wife Dr. Lynn Stine of Vincennes, IN; 3 granddaughters: Emma, Bridget, and Lucy; and a nephew: David Stine of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother (Allan Stine).

The funeral service for Roy F. Stine will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora, with military honors. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home and there will be Masonic Rites held at 8 p.m. The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Flora Academic Foundation or to the Clay County Cancer Support Group and those donations will be accepted at the funeral home.
