Gary Pruitt
Feb 28th, 1957 - Dec 2nd, 2023Gary Bruce Pruitt, age 66, of Olney, Illinois, passed away Saturday afternoon, December 2, 2023, at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. Gary was born on February 28, 1957, in Flora, to the late Evelyn G. Pruitt. Throughout his life, Gary was a steadfastly devoted and caring son to his mom, who passed away in 2016.
A graduate of Flora High School Class of 1975, he later worked in the oil fields and, for a time, sold real estate in Michigan for Coldwell Banker. He often enjoyed opportunities to go fishing and sometimes participated in fishing tournaments.
Gary was a people person, known for his easygoing nature, hearty laughter, and knack for spinning a pretty good yarn. Old friends and family were his favorite kind of people, and get-togethers were filled with smiles when he shared funny stories and reminisced about many memories from the past, including his childhood and teenage years. Cookouts and picnics were his happy places and the perfect chance to relax and visit. Gary was also someone who often struck up conversations with complete strangers at restaurants, almost always finding something in common to chat about from table-to-table.
His loyalty extended to his furry dog companions, who are likely having a joyful reunion on the other side in heaven. Everyone will agree that beneath Gary’s larger-than-life exterior was a heart that left a lasting impression on all who crossed paths with him.
Gary is survived by a family of cousins, second cousins, and extended family. He was preceded in passing by his mother and a number of aunts and uncles.
A relaxed memorial gathering will be held from 4 until 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. A memorial ceremony and time of remembrance will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Please bring your memories of Gary to share.
