Queda F. Headlee, age 89, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Wednesday evening, April 10, 2024, at Flora Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.
She was born July 8, 1934, in Louisville, the daughter of Joseph William and Iva B. (Kenner) Jenkins. She was united in marriage to Donald E. Headlee on January 15, 1952, in Castro Valley, California, and together they shared 63 wedding anniversaries together until his passing on September 19, 2015.
Queda devoted her life to the Pentecostal faith, finding spiritual fulfillment and community at the Calvary Apostolic Tabernacle in Iola, where she was a loyal member in recent years. Her commitment to nurturing the spiritual growth of youth was evident through her passionate concern for children's ministry. Queda helped coordinate Sunday School activities and organize transportation for all children so that they had reliable transportation to attend church—and many kids will remember the sound of the horn as the bus announced its arrival at the house.
Everyone who knew Queda well remembers how she loved shopping and traveling, and when she hosted countless gatherings where family would come together over her homemade pizza. These occasions were made even more special by her famous, secret recipes for both the delicious pizza and a unique salad dressing—recipes she guarded closely.
She is survived by a daughter: Brenda Pittman of Flora; a son: Brent (Marie) Headlee of Flora; 5 grandchildren: Chandra (Justin) Eckelberry, Charla (Damian) Proctor, Blake Headlee, Brandon (Jacqueline) Headlee, and Blaine Headlee; 8 great-grandchildren: Chayli, Jace, Avery, Caleb, Alaiya, Kayden, Conner, and Alivia; a brother: Rex (JoAnn) Lackey of Fresno, California; 2 nephews: Kevin (Stephanie) Jenkins and Tim Lackey; and a niece: Pam Gregg.
She was preceded in death by her father: Joe Jenkins; mother: Iva Lackey; husband: Don Headlee; and a brother: Jack (Charlene) Jenkins.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Red Brush Cemetery in Louisville. Those attending are invited to arrive directly at the cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to the family to assist with final expenses, and these will be accepted through the funeral home. To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com
