Jun 7th, 1947 - Jun 6th, 2024

Jerry Wayne Rector, age 76, of Flora, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, June 6, 2024, at his home.

Born on June 7, 1947, in Marion, Jerry was the son of William Herman and Helen M. (Bundren) Rector.  He was united in marriage to Lorine (Stegall) on November 20, 1971, at First United Methodist Church of Lockport, and together they celebrated 52 wedding anniversaries.

A skilled cabinet maker, Jerry's craftsmanship left a legacy in wood, creating projects that would stand the test of time.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving honorably in the U.S. Army.  Jerry was an active member of the Flora VFW, where he was a trustee and Past Commander, and represented the local organization at numerous state conventions.  Additionally, he was a member of the Flora American Legion and the Flora Moose.

Jerry and Lorine were dedicated volunteers at the Marion VA Hospital, a testament to their appreciation for others who have served our nation.  In his spare time, Jerry found enjoyment and relaxation in fishing, playing pool, and exploring new places.  His friendly smile and helping hands will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife: Lorine Rector of Flora; Lorine’s son and daughter: Rick (Barb) Drumwright of Montgomery, Texas, and Anna (Tony) Mendola of Lockport; 3 grandchildren: Misti (Doug) Schmitt of Crest Hill, Amanda Novander (Troy) of Harrisburg, Arkansas, and Brandon Drumwright of Conroe, Texas; 5 great-grandchildren: Ryan Schmitt, Brayden Schmitt, Andrew Schmitt, Nevaeh Hocking, and Keagan Hocking; 4 siblings: Carl (Linda) Rector and Wendell (Joyce) Rector, all of Philippi, West Virginia, Rosemary Brooks of Plainfield, and Rick (Betty) Rector of Joliet; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Herman and Helen Rector; stepmother: Hilda Rector; a brother: Jeffrey Rector; and a brother-in-law: Ron Brooks.

A Celebration of Life will begin with the presentation of military funeral honors at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Flora Veterans Memorial near the Flora VFW.  Following the honors, a meal will be served at the Flora VFW.  Memorial donations are suggested to the Clay County Cancer Support Group, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.  Frank & Bright Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.  To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com
