June Thomas

      Norma June (Hunt) Thomas, 87, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away early Thursday morning, June 27, 2024, in Florida.

      She was born July 14, 1936, in Zif, Illinois, the daughter of Raymond and Hazel Hunt.  She was united in marriage to Charles R. Thomas on June 12, 1954, and together they shared 66 years of marriage.

      June was a beautician and homemaker.  She was a member of the Clay City Christian Church for 68 years.  She was a Garden Club member for many years, and served as a poll worker on election day.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting and painting.  She won many contests for these, and her homemade pies were often the first to be eaten at local potlucks, family reunions and church socials.  She loved shopping, gardening, chocolates and flowers.  She also enjoyed her winters, including her last one, in Florida with her family.

      She was a loving daughter, wife, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be sorely missed by all.

      She is survived by a son, Phillip W. Thomas of Estero, Florida; a daughter, Cheryl J. (Thomas) (Gary) Piontkowski of Ft. Myers, Florida; 3 grandsons, Skyler T. Peterson of Ft. Myers, Florida, Dustin R. (Renee’) Peterson of Avoca, New York, Dexter S. (Tara McLeod) Peterson of Ft. Myers, Florida; 4 great-granddaughters, Madeline and Arabella Peterson of Avoca, New York, Athena and Aurelia  Peterson  of Ft. Myers, Florida; 6 sisters, Katherine (James) Foster of Mary Esther, Florida, Marjorie Strong of Olney, Illinois, Kay (Smokey) Strange of Flora, Illinois, Nina Aldridge of Olney, Illinois,  Gayle (Jerry) Jennings of Olney, Illinois, and Sharon (Warren) Swenson of Noble, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

      She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles R. Thomas; son, Steven C. Thomas; and brother, Farrell Hunt.

      A funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2024, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Nate Whisler and Brian Foster officiating.  Interment will follow in Clay City Cemetery.  To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com
