Mike Nichols

      Michael Douglas Nichols, age 71, of Flora, Illinois passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on September 10, 2024, at Carle Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria.

      He was born February 27, 1953, in Sulphur, Oklahoma, the son of Walter Glenn and Dorothy Lois (Cash) Nichols.  He was united in marriage to Julie Dickinson on May 22, 1999, in Flora, and together they have shared 25 wedding anniversaries.     

      Mike was a 1971 graduate of Flora High School.  He worked as a lineman for the City of Flora, retiring after over 28 years.  Mike was a member of the Flora Elks Club and went through the ranks during his active years as a member.  He was a member of New Beginnings Church in Flora.  Mike enjoyed attending craft shows where he sold hand stamped stainless steel rings.  Family was very important to him, and he always looked forward to time spent together laughing and making memories.

      He is survived by his wife: Julie Nichols of Flora; 2 daughters: Avy (Matthew) Suntrup of Indianapolis, Indiana and Courtney (Todd) Keller of Naples, Florida; siblings: Harvey (Paula) Nichols of Edmond, Oklahoma and Glenda (Carl) Oliver of McAlester, Oklahoma; father-in-law: George Dickinson; 3 nephews: John (Lisa) Harrison of Loveland, Colorado, Tim Nichols of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Dusty (Kelli) Nichols of Edmond, Oklahoma; and his beloved dog, Tucker.  

      He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law: Paula Dickinson; a niece: Rikki Ann Lovett; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his beloved dog, Kasey.

      A graveside ceremony with interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Elmwood Cemetery, Flora.  Those who wish to attend are asked to arrive directly at the cemetery.  A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday evening at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Memorial donations are suggested to New Beginnings Church, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.  To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com
