Ronald “Ron” A. Tolliver, age 81, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Monday, September 23, 2024, at his home.
He was born September 28, 1942, in Clay County, the son of Oren and Frances Allen. He was united in marriage to Susan Minelva Landreth on October 20, 1961, at the Wabash Baptist Church in Louisville, and together they have shared 62 wedding anniversaries.
Ron was a member of the Flora Eagles where he had served as a Trustee, Vice President, and President, and had been a member of the Sons of The Flora American Legion Post 14. He was also sworn in as a deputy for the Civil Defense and he volunteered on the Clay City Fire Department.
He was a certified mechanic and retired from Clay City Unit 10 as a Bus Superintendent / Bus Driver. After retirement he picked up some part-time positions over the years at Dwight Hancock's Dixon Mowers, Mike Beck Auto Sales, Jeff Wilkins Auto Sales, and Kim Hamilton Auto Sales.
Ron enjoyed time spent with all his fishing and hunting buddies and being outdoors. He cherished time spent with family and friends, especially watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. Ron was also an avid St. Louis Cardinal’s fan and enjoyed watching wrestling on tv.
He is survived by his wife: Sue Tolliver of Flora; 4 children: Alan (Maureen) Tolliver of Flora, Illinois, Tom (Angie) Tolliver of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Kay (Greg) Oestreich of Clay City, Illinois, and Candy (Cary) Cunningham, of Flora, Illinois; 12 grandchildren: Michelle (Joe) Conrad, Ashley (Nathan) Jones, David (Jamie) Tolliver, Matthew (Brittney) Tolliver, Rashelle (Tyler) Brooker, Logan (Danica) Murray, Sierra Eastin, Brandon Allison, Cody (Andrea) Allison, Jeremiah (Katy) Allison, and London and Sydney Cunningham; 30 great-grandchildren; brothers-and-sister-in-law: Roy Landreth of Flora, Illinois, Steve Landreth of Flora, Illinois, Aaron (Terri) Landreth of Louisville, Illinois, and CJ Goldstein of Altamont, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law: Paul Landreth; mother-and-father-in-law: Martha and Eddie McHenry; 2 sons-in-law: Wes Murray and Wayne Allison; 2 sisters: Betty (Harold) Griffy and Martha (John) Blair; a sister-in-law: Karen Goldstein; and 2 sisters-in-law: Peggy Landreth and Lois Landreth.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday evening, September 27, 2024, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Private interment will take place at a later date in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora.
