Howard Oscar Deimel, age 78, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away Friday, December 6, 2024, at his daughter’s home in Charleston.
He was born November 5, 1946, in Jasper County, the son of Henry and Henrietta (Ochs) Deimel.
Howard proudly served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He had worked in construction for Jesse B. Holtz in Newton and was one of the laborers that helped build the Newton Power Plant. Howard was a lifetime member of the Flora VFW Post 3999, and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 7 in Effingham. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed giving away his garden vegetables, canning, and making deer jerky.
He is survived by his children: Kellie Jo (Greg) Capps of Charleston and Forrest Deimel of Hoopeston; grandchildren: Jasmine Morgan (Cody Wiggins) and Jasinda Marsh (Kaleb LaFine); great-grandchildren: Pheonix Rose Marsh and Jasper Thomas Wiggins; and a niece: Becky Kocher.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
