Viola Alice (Tackitt) Hammond Johnson, age 94, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Tuesday night, December 17, 2024, at Axiom Healthcare of Flora.
She was born January 27, 1930, in Orchardville Township, Wayne County, Illinois, the daughter of Okley and Carrie (Griffin) Tackitt. She had been married to Wallace J. Hammond and William O. Johnson.
Viola had worked as a seamstress and waitress, and later she cleaned homes. She was of the Baptist faith and found joy in her love of music. Viola was a past member of the Flora Moose, as well as the Flora American Legion Post 14 and Flora Eagles Auxiliaries.
She is survived by her children: Sharon Kay Hasan of Alabama, Shirley (David) Jean Esch of Florida, and Donald (Brenda) Earl Hammond of Flora; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister: Betty Rae Monical of Indiana; her niece: Patsy Williams of Flora, as well as several other nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters: Venita (Art) Vest and Lois (Bob) Woods; and a brother: Harold Tackitt.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. A visitation will be held from 1 until 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial for both Viola Alice (Tackitt) Hammond Johnson and Wallace “Wally” Hammond will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
