Scott Allen Hargis, age 61, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025, at his home.
He was born December 30, 1963, in Flora, the son of Franklin “Frank” Lee and Norma Jean (Stanford) Hargis. On April 6, 2009, he married Donna Harned at Bethlehem Christian Church. He was a faithful member of the church and served as a deacon.
Scott’s life revolved around the outdoors, and the quiet pride he took in caring for his own parcel of ground. Bow hunting, fishing, and trapping were among his favorite activities. He stayed busy on his farmstead raising chickens, goats, and pigs, as well as gardening and canning—he even made his own maple syrup. Scott was also an avid butcher who was particularly known for his delicious deer sausage, and he was a good mechanic who took pride in maintaining and repairing equipment.
He is survived by his wife: Donna Hargis of Flora; mother: Norma Hargis of Flora; children: Topper Eastin of Flora, Logan (Deonna) Hargis of Flora, Travis (Kristy) Hargis of St. Augustine, Florida, Misty (Mitch) Gill of Bible Grove, Kim (CJ) Smerdel of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Chris Smith of Louisville; grandchildren: Madison, Paisley, Briar, Lynnlee, Linux, Evelyn, Emilia, Ava, Ellie, Luke, Rosemary, and Eleanor; sister: Becky (Chuck) Belcher of McLeansboro; brother: Randy (Lisa) Hargis of Flora; sister-in-law: Doris Griffith; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog: Bridger.
