Barbara Hamilton

   Barbara A. Pickens Hamilton, age 77, of Flora, Illinois passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Flora Rehabilitation and HealthCare Center in Flora.

   Barbara was born November 8, 1936 in Clay City to Lyle and Ina (McKinney) Stanley.  She married James W. Pickens on June 2, 1954 in Clay County.  Barbara later married Donald A. Hamilton on January 15, 2000.  She worked for Camcar  Aerospace in Rockford for 3 years and was a member of the Sailor Springs Christian Church, working as the janitor for 20 years.  Barbara was also employed by the Clay City Schools as a cook, retiring after 24 years and also did volunteer work at Clay County Hospital.  She loved working outside with her flowers, watching the birds, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

   She is survived by her husband: Don Hamilton of Flora;  3 sons: James Randall “Randy” Pickens (wife Barb) of Atoka, Oklahoma, Flint Nicole “Nick” Pickens (wife Marsha) of Sailor Springs, Sterling Cortney Pickens (wife Julie) of Kansas City, Missouri; step-son: Bruce Hamilton; step-daughter: Donna Milner (husband Larry) of Flora; 7 grandchildren:  Lee (Shaina) Pickens, Bryan (Sarah) Pickens, Camden Pickens, Stephanie Pickens, Cora Pickens, April Pickens, Madison Pickens;  7 step-grandchildren: Brandon Davis, John Craig Lane, Chad (Emily) Milner, Bruce (Jennifer) Hamilton Jr., Chad Hamilton, Jarod (Jennie) Hamilton, Jamie Hamilton;  8 great-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way.  Also surviving is a special aunt: Irma Ballard of Champaign.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister (Carolyn Hurd).

   The funeral service for Barbara Hamilton will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with interment following in Ingraham Cemetery.   Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.  Memorial donations may take the form of assisting with the placement of a monument for Barbara.  An online guest book is available at www.frankandbright.com.
