Fred "Pete" Glassford

   Fred J. “Pete” Glassford, age 91, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Friday, August 8, 2014, at Flora Gardens Care Center.

   Pete was born January 9, 1923, in Olney, the son of Frederick Garfield and Golda Mae (Nelson) Glassford.  He was united in marriage to Ruby G. Griffith on March 28, 1948, in Flora, and they shared 66 anniversaries together as husband and wife.  During his early life, Pete was part of the Civilian Conservation Corps in Northern Illinois.  He performed excavation work throughout his working years for Sohio Pipeline.  He was a faithful member of Bloom Missionary Baptist Church, serving as Deacon, assisting with Sunday School, performing the duties of Superintendent, and where he will be remembered for sharing his singing voice many times.  Hunting, fishing and reading were interests that Pete enjoyed when he was able, and he was dedicated to his family as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

   Surviving are his wife:  Ruby Glassford of Flora; 4 children:  Pam (Ken) Smith of New Braunfels, Texas, Steve (Vicki) Glassford of Olney, Kevin D. Glassford of Flora, and Kim (Lisa) Glassford of Mililani, Hawaii; 5 grandchildren:  Chris Glassford, Jenny (Darin) Laughlin, Meghan (Jimmy) Chamberlin, Bailey Glassford-Russell, and Morgan Glassford-Russell; 5 great-grandchildren:  Liam Glassford, Kaylee Laughlin, Austin Laughlin, Maddie Everett, and Marley Chamberlin; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a son:  Gary Bruce Glassford; a granddaughter:  Kacey Nichole Smith; 2 brothers:  Gene and John Glassford; and 2 sisters:  Susan Mack and Johannah Masters.

   A funeral service for Fred J. “Pete” Glassford will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with a visitation from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Flora.  Memorial donations are suggested to Bloom Missionary Baptist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.  Share a condolence or memory with the family at www.frankandbright.com.
