Robert W. "Bob" Koons, age 78, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at Clay County Hospital in Flora.
Bob was born May 17, 1936 in Flora to Clarence Edward and Lenora May (Tate) Koons. He worked for the Flora Police Department for 24 years retiring as Sergeant and Investigator and later worked in the Probation Program. Bob attended the Flora Church of the Nazarene, served on the Police Pension Board, and was an ESDA member. He was a musician, playing guitar, fiddle and mandolin, and played music at the Hub for many years. Bob was also great with electronics and was a ham radio operator. Since retirement, Bob enjoyed making trips to Texas.
Surviving are his children: Debra (Kenneth) Lesnowski of Chicago, Wayne Koons of Newburgh, IN, and John (Cheryl) Koons of Racine, WI; 1 granddaughter: Eleanor; 1 brother: Leslie Koons of Flora; special friends: Larry and Carol Robinson of New Hudson, MI and their granddaughters Kristin and Kinsey; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers: Earl, Fred, Orvil, and Bernice Koons, and 3 sisters: Opal Swanson, Louise Brock, and Sylvia Barnes.
A funeral service for Robert “Bob” Koons will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora. Memorial donations may be made to Flora Police Department’s “Shop with a Cop” Program and will be accepted at the funeral home.
