Marie French, age 90, of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015, at Flora Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Flora.
Marie was born January 5, 1925 in Bluford, Illinois to Elza and Jessie Holloway. She married Edwin A. French on July 10, 1942 in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death January 19, 2002.
Marie worked in payroll at the Wayne City Garment Company. She was a past and very active member of Wells Chapel Baptist Church. Later, First Baptist Church in Flora became Marie’s church home where she helped with Bible School and participated in her Sunday School group. In 1975, she and Ed started making trips to Florida that she thoroughly enjoyed. Marie learned how to make baskets, making many over the years, and became well known teaching others the craft. She was a member of Clay County Hospital Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. Marie’s lasting legacy will be that she loved her family.
Marie is survived by her daughter: Vicky (Jerry) Middleton of Flora; granddaughter: Tisha (Kent) Kitley of Flora; 2 great-grandchildren: Morgan Kitley and Colton Kitley; nephew: Kevin (Mary) Marlow of Bluford; and sister-in-law: Mary Lois (Willard) Brinkmann and their children Darryl (Jean) Brinkmann, Kent Brinkmann, and Karen Brinkmann, all of Carlyle. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister and brother-in-law: Wilma Jean and Benny Marlow, and a brother-in-law: Charles E. French of St. Louis.
A funeral service for Marie French will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be given to First Baptist Church or Clay County Hospital Endowment Foundation and will be received at the funeral home.
