Gaylon Fayette “Geff” Borders III, age 69, of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at his home in Flora.
Gaylon was born December 28, 1945 in Blair, Nebraska to Barbara (Brown) and Gaylon F. Borders Jr. He was baptized into the Baptist faith, and was a graduate of Flora High School and Millikin University. During his working years, Gaylon traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and internationally as a skilled Union Welder and Pipefitter, and was also a welding instructor at OCC. He had a passion for auto and drag racing, mechanics, and was an American Flyer model train hobbyist. Gaylon’s heart was truly in San Francisco, after living in the Bay area for a number of years, and returning to visit on many occasions. In recent years, he found joy in spending time with family, and following St. Louis Cardinals baseball.
He is survived by 2 sons: Gaylon F. “Geb” Borders IV and Geoffrey “Aaron” Borders both of Flora; 1 daughter: Aprylle Danyelle Borders, FC/2SW-USN (Shawn Bixler), of San Diego, CA; 1 brother: Russell (Shari) Borders of Manchester, MO; 3 grandchildren: Cole and Jerron Borders, and Luna Sky Bixler; and 1 step-granddaughter: Kara Coleman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Gaylon Borders Jr.
A funeral service for Gaylon Borders will be held at 12 (Noon) Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Memorial donations may be given to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and will be received at the funeral home.
