Doris L. Bright, age 90, of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at the Oakbrook Village Nursing Home in Huntington, IN.
Doris was born December 13, 1924 in Wayne County to Marshall and Bertha (Jones) Henson. She married Glen R. Taylor in 1942 in St. Charles, MO. He preceded her in death on March 13, 1947. Doris then married Carl Corry in 1949 in Ft. Wayne, IN, and he also preceded her in death. She later shared many years with her companion, Russell Wires, who also preceded her in death on March 2, 2004.
Doris worked for 27 years at Sparton Manufacturing. She was a member of Powers General Baptist Church, held past memberships in the Flora Eagles and the Flora American Legion and VFW Ladies Auxiliaries, and was an active member of the Clay County Hospital Auxiliary. Being very social, Doris had lots of friends and was always on the go. She was a “Girl’s Girl” and was bored if she wasn’t busy. Doris was raised on a farm, and enjoyed working outside and cooking. She cherished her grandkids and enjoyed their visits, especially around the holidays.
Doris is survived by her children: Doris Ann “Bootsie” Wagner and husband Don of Huntington, IN, Tom Corry of Xenia, and Glenda Lee Branch of Longview, TX; 6 grandchildren: Scott (Lisa) Tackitt of Huntington, IN, Andy (Tammy) Tackitt of Huntington, IN, Christina Daggett of Huntington, IN, Mark (Cheryl) Forth of Huntington, IN, Tim (Shari) Webster of Goodland, KS, and Brandy (Richard) Vaughn of KY; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews including Dale Henson of Flora, David Henson of Texas, and Donna Krutsinger of Flora. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a daughter: Thelma Douthit, a brother: Hubert Henson, 2 sisters: Virgie Huddelston and Faye Maxine, and a son-in-law: Kenneth Branch.
A funeral service for Doris Bright will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Powers Cemetery, Xenia. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be given to Clay County Hospital Auxiliary and will be accepted at the funeral home.
