Doris J. Songer, age 81, of Sterling, Illinois, formerly of Xenia, died Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison, Illinois.
Mrs. Songer was born on May 18, 1934 at Xenia, IL, the daughter of Paul and Mildred (Gabbert) Anderson. On March 8, 1953, she married Charles R. Songer at Xenia. He preceded her in death on November 27, 1984. Doris was a homemaker, a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sterling, and a past member of the Sterling Family Moose. She enjoyed watching sports, especially the Chicago Cubs.
She is survived by two daughters: Julie (Jesse) Ramirez of Morrison and Amy (Rick) Anderson of Medicine Lodge, KS; one son: David Songer of Riverside, CA; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Judy Mearns of Flora, Alice Williams of Newton, and Marsha (Richard) Taylor of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one infant son, a daughter-in-law: Cindy Songer, and two sisters: Phyllis Shidaker and Carol Newton.
A graveside service for Doris Songer will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2015, at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Xenia. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Sterling and The Fish Pantry of Sterling and Rock Falls and will be received at the funeral home.
