Nora E. Greenwood, age 94, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Clay County Hospital in Flora.
Nora was born February 23, 1921 in Wayne County to Ernest and Jennie (Cole) Flexter. She married Rolla Dee “Sug” Greenwood on May 2, 1939 in Barlow, KY. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1989. Nora was a homemaker and a long time member of Bethlehem Christian Church. She was baptized by Howard Yonaka at the First Christian Church in January 1953. Later in life, she enrolled in a program, successfully earning her GED and went on to complete the writing of her autobiography. In the past, Nora participated in the Flora Senior Citizens, Clay County Hospital Auxiliary, and enjoyed playing Pinochle.
She is survived by two sons: Richard (Daryl) Greenwood of St. Cloud, FL and Thomas (Connie) Greenwood of Flora; two daughters: Judy (Ralph) Baity of Flora and Alice (Ervin) Zimmer of Arvada, CO; one brother: Leo Flexter of Washington, IN; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother: Ora Flexter, one sister: Luella Coble, and two grandsons.
A funeral service for Nora Greenwood will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
