Lowell B. Sons, age 84, of Salem, Illinois, formerly of Flora, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Twin Willows Nursing Center in Salem, with family and his wife of 60 years by his side.
Lowell was born July 17, 1931 in Cisne, the son of Beryl Wayne and Lela (Howe) Sons. He married Barbara Cook on June 11, 1955, in Flora. Lowell served in the U.S. Army and was a cook at Fort Lewis, Washington, and later served in the Reserves for 8 years. His working experience included driving trucks for Flora Pure Milk Company for 5 years, shoe factory, Vaughn Furniture, Petrolane, and was a guard at Jenmar. Lowell really enjoyed listening to music at the Flora HUB, and traveling to other music spots in the area.
He is survived by his wife: Barbara Sons of Salem; 4 children: Jeffrey Sons (Paula) of Salem, Gary Sons (Cindy) of Woodbridge, VA, Carol Pruitt (Ron) of Kell, and Walter Sons (companion Teresa) of Cisne; 12 grandchildren: Amy Hawkins (Randy), Crystal Sons, Angela Smith (Matt), Nicci Sons, Stephanie Sons, Samantha Sons, Christopher Sons, Jeannie Sons, Amy Pruitt, Ronnie Pruitt Jr., Caleb Pruitt, and Jarod Sons; 6 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister: Donna Kay Taylor (Rick) of Edinburg, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Betty Caldwell, a brother: Galen Sons, and a sister: Patty Ann Thomas.
A funeral service for Lowell Sons will be 3 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, with visitation from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Military honors will be presented prior to the funeral service. The family has requested that memorial donations be given to a group that assists Veterans, such as D.A.V. or Wounded Warriors, and these will be accepted at the funeral home.
