George Howard McGee, age 96, of Louisville, Illinois, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora.
George was born July 22, 1919 in Louisville, the son of Glen and Amy (Crum) McGee. He was united in marriage to Vera “Wilma” McCollum on July 11, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri.
George honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He then began a career in sales, selling wholesale goods, and later worked in the shipping department at World Color Press for 17 years. In his retirement, George resumed serving, even working at McGee Auto Sales at age 72. He was a member of Louisville Baptist Church and the Louisville Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years: Wilma McGee of Louisville; son: Tom McGee (Nancy) of Louisville; daughters: Carol Birch (Terry) of Louisville, Rita Haines (Joe) of Louisville, and Marla Groves of Louisville; along with 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister-in-law: Harold and Delores McGee.
A funeral service for George McGee will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with visitation from 1 p.m. until the hour of service on Sunday at the funeral home. Pastor Tom Freeman will officiate. Interment will be in Orchard Hill Cemetery, Louisville, with military honors.
