Andy Armer, age 86, of Flora, Illinois, previously of Sullivan, passed away Friday, July 22, 2016, at his home in Flora.
Andy was born June 8, 1930, in Clay County, Tennessee, the son of Bedford and Estelle (Bean) Armer. He was united in marriage to Judy Hughes and was married for 25 years before she passed away in 1986. He then married JoAnn Shelton on August 19, 1988, in Sullivan.
Andy worked in the steel mills and was a member of the Flora Moose. His favorite pastimes were following the St. Louis Cardinals, tinkering on cars, and he always loved visiting with family and friends.
Andy is survived by his wife: JoAnn Armer of Flora; daughter: Tammy Punches (significant other Duane Daily) of Mt. Zion; stepchildren: Joseph Allen Tidwell (Helen) of Arthur, Loretta Kay Worthey (John) of Flora, Ralph Edward Artis of DesMoines, IA, and Candy Sue Mitchell (Lee) of Iola; 2 grandchildren: Taylor Punches of Sullivan and Roger Punches III of Mt. Zion; 11 step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren; 7 siblings: Illene Iyler, Jeanette Thornburg, Benton Armer, Sara Dolan, Tom Armer, John Armer, and Mary Dunn; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and 4 siblings: Ronald Armer, Sid Armer, James Armer, and Betty Vandersnick.
A funeral service for Andy Armer will be 12 Noon Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Rusk Cemetery, Flora. Memorial donations may be given to Clay County Cancer Crusaders or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, and these will be accepted at the funeral home.
