Paddy J. Hale, age 82, of Flora, Illinois, a former Rinard resident, passed away Monday, August 8, 2016, at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham, Illinois.
Paddy was born in Clinton, Iowa, on February 22, 1934, the daughter of John A. and Helen (Johnson) Dickey. She married J. Robert “Bob” Hale on January 29, 1971, in Salem. He preceded her in death on June 26, 2009.
Paddy spent most of her life working with horses and traveling to horse shows far and wide. She was active in saddle clubs at Clay City, Fairfield, and Albion, to name a few. During her late teen years, she did exhibition trick riding and riding with the White Horse Troup in Nebraska. After moving to Wayne County in 1967, Paddy worked at Fairfield Garment Factory and International Shoe Company in Flora.
Paddy is survived by 3 children: Steve (Judy) Walsh of Flora, Vickie (Rick) Spidle of Mattoon, and Sharon (Steve) Forth of Kilgore, TX; 4 grandchildren: John (Nikki) Walsh of Dover, TN, Sarah (Joel) Hackney of Flora, Stephanie (Kevin) Woods of Newton, and Shannon (James) Magness of Tyler, TX; 6 great-grandchildren and one on the way; 1 brother: John A. Dickey Jr. of Morrison; and 2 sisters: Nancy Woehl of Morrison and Jean Cook of Jesup, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
A funeral service for Paddy Hale will be 7 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with visitation from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and these donations will be accepted through the funeral home.
