Betty Jean Snyder Schroeder, age 90, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Friday, October 21, 2016, at Flora Gardens Care Center.
She was born April 22, 1926, in Flora, the daughter of George Burton Richardson and Mildred (Rhoades) Richardson Venable. She married Charles C. Snyder Jr. on March 24, 1946, in Flora, and they shared 38 years of marriage until his death on November 26, 1984. She married Galen “Red” Schroeder on November 28, 1987. Galen preceded her in death November 13, 2014.
Betty’s life was filled with love and laughter. Her delightful sense of humor was a gift to family and friends. She enjoyed golf and shopping, appreciated antiques, snapped many photos with her camera to preserve memories, and had been known to accept an invitation to dance. She was a member of First Christian Church, the Ladies Golf Association, and Criterion Club.
She is survived by a daughter: Rebecca Jill Snyder Fehrenbacher and husband Jim of Flora, and children Andy Fehrenbacher (Missy) of Salem, with son and daughter Charlie and Olivia, and Jeff Fehrenbacher (Tracy) of St. Peters, Missouri, with daughter Stella and stepdaughter Maegen Hudson; a son: Calvin Clay Snyder of Flora; and a daughter: Sharla Todd and husband Robin of Flora, and children Angela Vincent (Tyler) of Salem, with sons Maxwell and William as well as expecting twins, and Jordan Baird of Flora; a stepson: Tyler Schroeder and wife Susan of Flora, and children Emily Milner (Chad) with sons Trevin, Ethan, and Landon, and Carrie Nussmeyer (Daniel) with sons Nolan and Nyle, and John Schroeder; a stepson: Brent Schroeder and wife Kathy of Charleston, and children Kyle Schroeder and Jared Schroeder; a stepdaughter: Kyra Houk and husband Ted of Palm City, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: Burt Richardson, and Mildred and Herb Venable; her husbands; a sister: Diana Sue Venable Stephens; and a brother-in-law: Bill Snyder and wife Shirley.
A funeral service for Betty Snyder Schroeder will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, with Ben VanHyning and Kevin Able officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
