Dorothy Laswell Gary, age 99, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016, at Medilodge of Marshall, MI. She was a former resident of Albion, MI, and Clay County, IL.
Dorothy was born August 6, 1917, in Flora, IL, the daughter of Benjamin and Inis (Clement) Overstreet. She married William Laswell who preceded her in death. She later married Gary Gary, who also preceded her in death. Dorothy worked at One Hour Martinizing in Albion, MI, as well as several restaurants, and was of the Christian faith. She was an animal lover, often taking care of and feeding the neighborhood cats and dogs. Dorothy was also known as the “Candy Lady” who made and shared delicious homemade candy.
She is survived by her children: Barbara (Earl) Gill of Flora, Sue Nolan of Flora, and Bill Laswell of New York, NY; 6 grandchildren: Terri Barche, Patricia Shock, Karen Donaho, Kevin Dunnigan, Clayton Leathers, and Aman Laswell; several great-grandchildren; and special friend: Jerry Olenik. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; daughter: Connie Dunnigan and husband John; son: Charles O. Perrine; son-in-law: Jerry Nolan; brother: Charles Overstreet; and sister: Mildred Simpson.
Dorothy’s wishes were for cremation with inurnment at a later date in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations in Dorothy’s name may be made to Fur A Good Paws or to Clay County Hospice and those will be accepted at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.
