Nancy Mae King, age 87, of Xenia, Illinois, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 11, 2016, at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora.
Nancy was born March 14, 1929, in Xenia, the daughter of Grover and Bessie (Henson) Greenwood. She married Francis “Frank” King on August 2, 1952, in Xenia.
Nancy attended Walnut Branch during her grade school years and was a 1947 graduate of Xenia High School. She worked at Brown Shoe Factory for 25 years and later in Dietary at Clay County Hospital for over 10 years. Nancy became a member of Xenia Christian Church in the early 50’s and served as the church secretary-treasurer for over 40 years. She was a member of the Xenia Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and was involved in quilting groups that donated the items made to the Fire Department. Nancy enjoyed following St. Louis Cardinal Baseball over the years, tending to her flowers, and cooking and feeding others. She often babysat and took pleasure and pride in her family, remembering them on the holidays with candy and treats.
She is survived by her husband: Frank King of Xenia; 2 sons: Nick (Joyce) King of Kell and Doug King of Xenia; 3 grandchildren: Chad (Susan) King of Flora, and Jonni King (Jeremiah) Kaiser and Nate King both of Xenia; 1 great-grandson: Vince (Danielle) King of Xenia; along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and 5 brothers: Maynard, Bernard, Lawrence, Clem, and Gene Greenwood.
A funeral service for Nancy King will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Xenia Christian Church. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Xenia. A visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, and from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Memorial donations in Nancy’s memory may be given to Xenia Christian Church and will be accepted through the funeral home.
