Elfra McGrew

   Elfra Mae McGrew, age 93, of Flora, Illinois, passed away early Tuesday morning, November 15, 2016, at the home of her daughter in Flora.

   Elfra was born April 22, 1923, in Wayne County, the daughter of Walter and Maude (Bratton) Hargrave.  She married Kelton E. McGrew on October 3, 1942, in Vincennes, Indiana.  He preceded her in death on March 18, 1999. 

   Elfra’s greatest joys in life were family and the years spent living on her farm.  She was a happy, cheerful, and supportive mother and grandmother during the years of her family’s participation in sports and activities.  She enjoyed cooking, putting out big gardens, sewing, and upholstery work, and attended New Zion Baptist Church for many years.

   Elfra is survived by her children: Ed (wife Geneva) McGrew of Geff, Sandy (husband V. Tracy) Jamison of Flora, Joe (wife Barb) McGrew of Flora, Elaine Wylie of Canton, Michigan, and Danny McGrew of Flora; along with a loving group of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 7 siblings: Perry Hargrave, Clela Griffith, Lola Frala, Jack Hargrave, Evadell Robertson, Darliene Geyer, and Letha Hargrave.

   A funeral service for Elfra McGrew will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.  A visitation will be held Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.  Memorial donations in Elfra’s memory may be given to Clay County Hospice or New Zion Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
