Martha Ellen Cook, age 65, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016, in rural Wayne County.
Ellen was born June 10, 1951, in Olney, the daughter of Robert and Marjorie (Eaton) Burr. She married Leslie Ray Cook on July 3, 1969, at the Christian Church in Noble.
Ellen worked at Knapp Oil Company, Sunbeam, and later for a number of years at Clay Medical Center. She was a member of Flora First United Methodist Church, D.A.R., and Clay County Senior Citizens. Ellen loved the holidays and everything that went along with it including decorating, baking, and sharing with others. She enjoyed cooking and bread making, being outdoors doing mowing and trimming, tending to her flowers and gardens, and looking for and feeding the hummingbirds.
Ellen is survived by her husband: Ray Cook of Flora; a son: Nathan (Rachel) Cook of Effingham; 3 sisters: Connie West (the late Jim West) of Olney, Lisa (Roger) Marks of Noble, and Amy (Rex) Woods of Newton; sister-in-law: Sharon (Mike) Gray of Flora; brother-in-law: Dennis (Kim) Cook of Rinard; along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A funeral service for Ellen Cook will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Cook Cemetery, rural Wayne County. A visitation will held from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers or gift items, the family prefers donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
