James Hayden Smith, age 88, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Monday, December 13, 2016, at Flora Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Flora.
James was born on June 24, 1928, in Grayville, the son of Hayden Dean and Frances (Rachels) Smith. He married Betty J. Brown on March 26, 1983, in Louisville.
James worked as a truck driver over the years and also did mechanic work and carpentry. In addition to being a fisherman, he liked to travel, rebuild string instruments, prospecting and hunting for gold, whittling, and visiting antique stores.
His family includes his wife: Betty Smith of Flora; 3 children: Jimmy, Mark, and Rachel; step-children: Billy, Jimmy, David, Eddie, and Roger; a sister: Nell Kleinschmidt of Mt. Carmel; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: George Smith; and a step-son: Paul.
Private interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Grayville. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora.
