Harold Wayne Hickox, age 92, of Flora, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at Flora Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Flora.
Wayne was born April 13, 1924, in Hooker, Oklahoma, to Harl and Fanny (Fouty) Hickox. He married Lucille Foster on November 10, 1945, in Yale. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2015. They were long time members of Shiloh Church of Christ in Louisville. Wayne traveled the “Big Waters”, including to Okinawa and through Panama, during his 2-1/2 years serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a farmer, worked at a boys home and orphanage, and was a hand at the Loretta Lynn Dude Ranch. Wayne truly enjoyed being around horses and mules. He even purchased and broke wild horses. Wayne was a member of VFW Post #3999.
He is survived by 9 children: Ronnie (Anne) Hickox of Blytheville, AR, Carol Ann (Richard) Salyers of Flora, Ray (Beverly) Hickox of Burnsville, MS, Alan (Charlotte) Hickox of Flora, Harold (Diane) Hickox of Newton, Lee (Helen) Hickox of Burnsville, MS, Randy (Vicki) Hickox of Burnsville, MS, Janet (Emmitt) Miller of Flora, and Larry (Lisa) Hickox of Dundas;1 brother: Rex (Rosemary) Hickox of Yale; 2 sisters: Louise (Ronnie) Evans of Hidalgo, and Bonnie (Terry) Daniels of Avon Park, FL; 40 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lucille; a son: Richard; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; one brother; and one sister.
A funeral service for Wayne Hickox will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with a visitation from 10 until 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Honey Cemetery, Bogota, with military funeral honors. Memorial donations are suggested to Shiloh Church of Christ or Clay County Hospice, and these will be accepted at the funeral home.
