Grace Pettit
May 28th, 1924 - Jan 20th, 2017Grace G. Pettit, age 92, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017, at Clay County Hospital in Flora.
Grace was born May 28, 1924, in Xenia, the daughter of Alvie and Audrey (Fatheree) Holman. She married Lewis E. Pettit on July 14, 1945, in Flora. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2007. Grace was a homemaker and was well known for her cooking abilities, especially her pie baking. She was also a 50-year member of Flora American Legion Auxiliary, Flora Moose Auxiliary, and the VFW Auxiliary.
Grace is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Donna and Dennis Slankard of Charleston; one son and daughter-in-law: Dave and Sue Pettit of Flora; four grandchildren: Michael (Kara) Verchota, Brandi (Rich) Temples, Vance (Laurie) Pettit, and Shanda (CR) McCroy; 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers, and 7 sisters.
In keeping with Grace's wishes, a graveside service was held Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora, with Pastor Rodney Payne officiating. Arrangements were in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora. Memorial donations are suggested to Meals on Wheels and will be accepted at the funeral home.
