David Allison, age 89, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away Tuesday morning, January 24, 2017, at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora.
David was born October 18, 1927, in Flora, the son of William and Ethel (Hendricks) Allison. He married Fern Tackitt who preceded him in death in 1998. He later married Maxine Caudle and she preceded him in death in 2015.
David worked at the Iuka Rock Quarry as a young man and then realized he enjoyed every aspect of the oil business. He once owned his own business and was an oil pumper up until the age of 88, when he was laid off due to low oil prices and the lack of work. He was a member of Brush Creek Branch Community of Christ Church in Zenith.
He is survived by 2 sons: LaVerne (Dee) Strange of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Jim (Phyllis) Allison of Flora; 2 daughters: Regina (Robert) Bricker of Xenia and Connie (Gary) Hilderbrand of Olney; 2 step-daughters: Sue Bennett of Zenith and Donna Adkins of Columbia, MO; 12 grandchildren: Anthony (Dawn) Strange, Kim (David) Morimanno, Sonja (Greg) Coolman, Chris Strange, and Nathan Strange all of Ft. Wayne, IN, Wayne (Candy) Allison of Xenia, Tony Allison of Clay City, Pam (Phil) Hall of Louisville, Bobby (Lance) Osborne of Xenia, Tambra (Greg) Matthews of Cisne, Brandy (Jason) Lane, Bridgett Dalton and friend Brandon both of Olney; along with 32 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren, and his faithful dog “Ollie”. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives: Fern (Tackitt) Allison and Maxine (Caudle) Allison; 2 brothers: William Hendricks and Alfred Allison; 1 sister: Ida Atteberry; 1 grandson: Jeff Strange; and 1 stepson-in-law: Leon Bennett.
The funeral service for David Allison will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2017, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. A visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or Clay County Cancer Crusaders and these will be accepted at the funeral home.
